Seeing Gaurav, our Commercial Manager run our corporate team members through the company vehicles is a great reminder that road safety isn’t just about the car, it’s about protecting each other.
Whether you’re a support worker driving participants in the community, or part of the corporate team using company vehicles, road safety starts with preparation, care, and responsibility.
Before You Drive
Take a minute before heading out to make sure everything’s in order:
- Check your vehicle – Tyres, lights, wipers, and fuel. Report or address any issues straight away.
- Check yourself – Stop and assess how you’re feeling. If you’re tired, unwell, or distracted, it’s okay to take a moment before driving.
- Plan ahead – Know your route and allow time for traffic or weather changes.
If you notice a problem with a corporate vehicle, let HR or your manager know before using it again.
While on the Road
When behind the wheel, your focus should always be on the road and the safety of everyone in the vehicle.
- Follow all road safety rules and speed limits
- Maintain a zero alcohol and drug standard at all times when driving and at work
- Keep your phone out of reach — no texting or scrolling, even at lights
- Ensure everyone in the car is wearing a seatbelt
- Drive calmly and respectfully, especially when transporting participants
Licence Responsibility
Everyone driving for work must hold a current and valid driver’s licence. It is your responsibility to ensure your licence remains current. If your licence is renewed, suspended or cancelled you must notify HR immediately and provide an updated copy of your licence.
After the Journey
When the trip ends, take a moment to:
- Record kilometres and any incidents or vehicle concerns
- Report accidents or near misses immediately to your manager and complete an Incident Report Form
- For corporate vehicles, log km’s, return keys and check the car is clean and refueled for the next user
Our Shared Responsibility
Every HelpAlong team member plays a part in keeping our roads and passengers safe. By following road safety rules, maintaining licence compliance, and driving with care, we protect ourselves our team members and the people we support.
