Meet Elysee Fatuma, WHS Committee Member
1. When did you first join HelpAlong?
I joined HelpAlong in 2023, and it’s been a rewarding journey ever since.
2. What motivated you to join HelpAlong, or how did you hear about HelpAlong?
I first heard about HelpAlong through a colleague who spoke highly of the organization’s mission. I was drawn to its focus on supporting individuals through challenging transitions and wanted to be part of something with such meaningful impact.
3. When did you become House Senior and what made you make the move?
I stepped into the House Senior role in early 2023. I was motivated by the opportunity to take on more responsibility, mentor staff, and contribute more directly to improving resident care and team dynamics.
4. What do you enjoy most about working with HelpAlong?
The people—both the clients we serve and the incredible team I work with. Every day brings something new, and it’s inspiring to be part of a community that genuinely cares.
5. Can you share a memorable achievement or project you’ve worked on at HelpAlong?
One of the most memorable projects was leading a home reorganization initiative that significantly improved safety and daily operations. It was a team effort that made a noticeable difference in both staff workflow and resident experience.

6. What advice would you give to new employees joining HelpAlong?

7. What motivated you to volunteer for the workplace health and safety committee?
I’ve always believed that a safe workplace is a productive and positive one. Volunteering for the committee allowed me to advocate for practical changes that help everyone feel more secure at work.
8. What aspect or why is workplace health and safety most important to you?
It’s important because it directly affects the well-being of both staff and clients. Everyone deserves to feel safe, and even small improvements can prevent major incidents.
9. Do you have any specific workplace health and safety goals you’d like to achieve?
I’d like to help standardise safety protocols across all homes and improve training processes so that every employee feels confident in managing risks.
10. What are your goals or aspirations for the coming year – personally and professionally?
Professionally, I hope to continue developing my leadership skills and take on more mentorship opportunities. Personally, I’m focusing on work-life balance and carving out more time for hobbies.
11. Outside of work, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy?
I enjoy hiking, photography, and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. Being outdoors and getting creative really helps me recharge.
