Supporting Respectful Conversations

  • 28 November 2025

Clear communication helps everyone work well together and keeps our workplace safe. HelpAlong’s Communication Policy sets out how we speak with each other, our clients and anyone connected to our service and forms part of our Worker Handbook Standards.

Below is a simple overview of what the policy means for day-to-day work.

Our Approach

Every person has the right to a workplace free from disrespect, conflict and behaviour that causes harm. The way we communicate influences how supported people feel and how well we deliver services.

The focus is on calm, respectful communication that maintains trust and protects the wellbeing of others.

What Respectful Communication Looks Like

The policy applies to all verbal, written and online communication, including conversations, emails, messages, phone calls and social media.

Key expectations include:

  • Speaking in a clear and professional way

  • Listening without interrupting

  • Using inclusive language

  • Addressing concerns directly when it is safe

  • Avoiding sarcasm, gossip, personal attacks or comments that undermine others

Aggressive or hostile language, ongoing criticism, humiliation, or anything that harms the reputation of HelpAlong is not acceptable.

If Something Needs Attention

You can raise concerns:

  • Directly with the person involved (if safe)

  • With your Service Coordinator or Manager

  • With HR

Reports are managed confidentially and without retaliation. Managers are responsible for responding promptly.

Email, Internet and Social Media

All activity on HelpAlong systems may be monitored or accessed by authorised employees.

A few reminders:

  • Keep communication professional

  • Do not share private information

  • Avoid political engagement online

  • Do not post content that is hateful, defamatory or harmful

  • Never speak on behalf of HelpAlong unless you have written approval

This helps maintain safety, privacy and public trust.

Use of AI Tools

AI can support ideas and admin tasks but must be used with care.

Acceptable use includes drafting or refining content.
Unacceptable use includes entering confidential information, creating harmful content or using AI to speak for HelpAlong without approval.

Always check outputs for accuracy and tone.
