Some moments in life are simply made for joy and for our clients, the fortnightly fishing group is one of them. Every second Thursday, our clients come together by the water to relax, share stories, and enjoy the simple happiness of casting a line. It’s not just about fishing, it’s about connection, laughter, and feeling part of something bigger.
One of our clients recently attended, and it was a truly special day. Fishing has been a lifelong passion for him, long before receiving support, and being back by the water brought a light to his eyes that words can’t quite capture. With a rod in hand, a gentle breeze on his face, and the friendly hum of conversation around him, it was as though the years melted away and he was right back in his element.
The magic was in the little things – the patient wait for a nibble on the line, the excitement when the rod bent, the way the group cheered each other on whether they caught a fish or not. There was laughter, gentle teasing, shared snacks, and moments of quiet reflection as they watched the water sparkle in the sun. These aren’t just fishing trips; they’re days that build friendships, strengthen confidence, and give clients the freedom to simply be themselves.
Tips & Tricks to Maximise the Magic
- Pack Smart – Bring sun protection, a hat, and a comfy chair so clients can relax between casts.
Hydration & Snacks – Keep water and light snacks handy to stay energised and comfortable. - Involve the Client – Encourage them to take part in each step, from baiting the hook to celebrating each catch.
- Capture the Moment – Take photos (with consent) to share with clients and families—memories to look back on.
- Build the Story – Keep the joy alive by chatting about the trip during the week, supporting memory recall and social skills.
- Celebrate the Experience – Whether there’s a big catch or not, focus on the fun, connection, and sense of achievement.
These days are about so much more than fishing. They are about creating moments that matter. They help clients reconnect with old passions, make new friends, and feel truly part of their community. Most importantly, they bring a sense of pride, joy, and belonging that lasts long after the lines are packed away.
Because in the end, it’s not the size of the catch that counts. It’s the smiles, the stories, and the shared memories that stay with our clients, reminding them that they are supported, valued, and deeply connected to the world around them.
